In "Towards a MENA Prison Forum," the founding framework is laid out for UMAM D&R's MENA Prison Forum: Exploring Political Prison Culture and Practices in the MENA Region initiative. In this first publication, some of the project's parameters are defined, the reasons for such an ambitious, wide-ranging initiative are discussed, and the initiative's goals are clarified. Prison and incarceration in the Middle East and North Africa feature prominently throughout history, as well as in today's dynamic landscape, and thus deserve further study, increased advocacy, and regional collaboration.
