Let Them Rest in Peace...
A Talk with General Salim Abou Ismail
دعهم يرقدون بسلام...
شهادة العميد سليم أبو اسماعيل
© 2010 UMAM D&R
Arabic with English subtitles
About
On January 21, 2000, then-prime minister Salim al-Hoss instituted "The Committee to Investigate the Fate of the Missing and Kidnapped." Initially, the initiative seemed to circumvent the years of denial that cloaked this tragic aspect of Lebanon’s civil war. In reality, however, it proved to be little more than a renewed attempt to "close the file" on the matter. This is a conversation with General Salim Abou Ismail, the head of that committee, who was responsible for having reported the number of the war’s missing and kidnapped as less than 3,000—and then declaring them dead.
This DVD was part of the
Memories of the Past, Tools for the Present
initiative and made possible thanks to funding from the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa).
Interview: Lokman Slim
Camera & Sound: Darkside
Editing & Post-Production: Rami Nihawi
Graphics: Hisham Salam
Length: 21 min
